Thursday April 17th 2008

While driving into Yacolt it was a partly cloudy day about 60 degrees. I had to see these new changes for myself as well as the other news I had heard over the phone from a few Yacolt residences.

click on photo to enlarge. On the comer of Yacolt Rd & Hubbard there was a orange sleeve on a power pole in a area where the birds hadn’t attempted to build a nest since November 2007.This Orange sleeve appears no to be secure and may have slipped down due to the wind.

As I was approaching the corner of Twin fall & Hubbard I was greeted by Councilman James Waldron, Also known as “The Colonel “ and past Mayor of Yacolt. He informed me that two Quakers had been seen living inside of N.W. Bird Rescues, nest box number two, located on Hubbard Street.

As I approached the N.W. Bird Rescue Platform Site Number two. I saw two Quakers, startled and flew away, out of this location.
As I was leaving town I was wondering about the fate of the remaining Quakes once again.

Somehow, I had a feeling that the Quakers called the"Yacolt 6 "will survive.

Wendsday April 16th, 2008

I was called by a local resident of Yacolt about Clark Public Utilities tearing down the nest off the power poles. I informed them I had heard about the tear down. But I did not know the new news..Yellow caution tape replaced the Orange Sleeve. Click on photo to enlarge.

In addition, that CPUD had removed the first orange sleeve they installed earlier this month. And relocated it up the street. Also in addition, placed Yellow caution tape in place of the orange sleeve. But I was also something that,

I was not aware of . And that is that CPUD had installed two more orange sleeves improperly at two locations. Moreover, within a day’s time the Quakers had used the improper installation to their advantage, and started to build a nest.

Tuesday April 15th, 2008 3 Week Old Baby Dove Falls Out of Tree

We received a call from a Good Samaritan who found us in the phone book. They had discovered that a baby Mourning Dove had fallen out of a tall pine tree in their front yard. So we met with this person at the Clark County Emergency Veterinary Clinic in Vancouver Washington.

Around 10 PM, One of Our Volunteers picked up and delivered the baby who appeared to be dehydrated, and quite shaken up from the fall. We kept the bird from going into shock and have had a close eye on it since its arrival. If it makes it another three hours, we feel it will be fine. In addition, it will be released where it was found once we wean it in two to three weeks. Its 3:o0 ish AM and the baby should survive the next three hours before its next exam.

Sunday April 13th, 2008 Noon Yacolt Washington

Arriving in Yacolt it was warm 75 degree day Arriving in town, I drove to the first pole that was covered by an orange sleeve to find a nest of two Quakers beneath the orange sleeve that appeared to be falling off.

As I drove closer, I noticed a Quaker bird nest developing under the improperly installed orange sleeve .

As I continued into town I noticed that YPPA has not had the chance to reconstruct and erect their third attempt on their pole number four located on the corner of Yacolt Road & Hubbard.

Below, notice a lot of fallen twigs that have fallen from the nest being rebuilt on the power pole where Clark County Public Utilities neglected to install a orange deterrent sleeve after this week's nest tear down.

As I continued into town, I noticed that YPPA has YET to reconstructed the flaws in their Nest Platforms erected in Mid~ March. These are critical nest platforms located on the main corner of Hubbard & Twin Falls Avenue. * The twigs you see may have been gleaned from across the street from YAPPA'S platform.

A beatutifil nest platform erected by YPPA, is located across the street from the power pole where the Quakers have been repeatedly have been constructing their nest.

YPPA has been pledged to be financed by;

  1. The Quaker Parrot Society.

  2. Friends of Animals.

  3. And Nick Peck; VP of YPPA.

YPPA has been Pledged to be financed by the above groups since December, 2007.
